More Stitches to Love

One of the amazing things about knitting is that a tiny handful of techniques form the foundation for so many creative textures. When you think about it, everything comes down to knit and purl. Increases, decreases, lace, cables, ribbings – all are simply a variation on those two actions. We have some lovely classes coming up that focus on using yarn overs – wrapping your yarn around your needle before knitting or purling – in inventive ways to create dynamite effects.

Intro to Lace & Cable Combos – Meander Cowl: Monday, June 6 from 6:00-8:30pm.  The combination of lace and cable stitches creates irresistible texture and transforms basic projects into endlessly entertaining knitting. In this technique packed class, you’ll learn the building blocks of lace and cable stitches, along with the perfect provisional cast on, cabling without a cable needle, and the 3-needle bind off, while working on this lovely, lightweight, any season cowl.

Intro to 2-Color Brioche Stitch – Newsprint Cowl: Sunday, June 12 & 19 from 12:30-2:00pm. Enjoying a moment of popularity, brioche stitch creates a unique, fluffy ribbing that is completely reversible. This technique is a marvelous way to play with extra color. This class is listed as Intermediate, but is perfect for Advanced Beginners comfortable with knitting in the round. Come discover why everyone is using brioche this season!

Be Manipulative! Elongated Novelty Stitches, Deconstructed: Monday, June 20 from 6:00-8:30pm. Add high impact to your knitting with these surprising and delightful stitches. In this class, you’ll work a sampler of stitches that will have you plotting fabulous projects. Amaze your crafty friends and mystify non-knitters with your new skills.
