11th Hour Knitting Projects

If you are anything like me, it’s time to get started on holiday knitting. What’s that, you say? Just 11 days until Christmas? Plenty of time to knock out some last-minute gifts! That is not to say I didn’t intend to start earlier… but as they say, why do today what you can put off until tomorrow. Exactly. Except, you guys– we need start before tomorrow. Here’s a list I’ve put together of some quick, last-minute knitted gifts. I have also helped you out by pairing each of them with my favorite holiday movies– so you can multitask.

The Big Hat by Davina Choy

The Big Hat

The Big Hat by Davina Choy is available as a free Ravelry download. We have a sample in the store knit in Freia Handpaints Ombre Super Bulky. One skein completes the hat and the pom-pom. Other yarn options for the hat are Brown Sheep Burly Spun, and Malabrigo Rasta. Personally, I love the ombre version! Such a great use of that yarn.

This pattern pairs well with Elf. Something about the absurdity of size of the yarn and needles, will make you feel like an elf.

Sol Degrade Bias Scarf by Twisted

Sol Degrade Bias Scarf

The Sol Degrade Bias Scarf is a Twisted pattern free with purchase of the yarn. It calls for one skein of Lang Sol Degrade, which is an aran weight cotton. This is a great summer scarf, and perfect for someone who lives somewhere a little warmer.

This pattern pairs well with It’s a Wonderful Life. It is mindless enough that you can still pay attention to and appreciate the heart-felt holiday favorite.

Drop Stitch Cowl by Abi Gregorio

Drop Stitch Cowl

Drop Stitch Cowl is another great, FREE, Ravelry download. We have a sample knit in the shop our of Mirasol Yaya, a really, really soft super bulky yarn. It requires two skeins, but will knit up so quickly (thanks to the dropped stitches).

This pairs well with White Christmas. Let Bing Crosby serenade you while your needles click away. Don’t forget to look up every now and again to catch a glimpse of those dreamy blue eyes.

Betsy Hat by Jane Richmond

Betsy Hat

This one is going to require a little more attention, but it really a quick knit with nice detail. The Betsy Hat by Jane Richmond is available on Ravelry for $4.95, and uses one skein of Berroco Vintage Chunky.

Pairs well with a double feature of the animated How the Grinch Stole Christmas and A Charlie Brown Christmas. You have seen them both enough times that you can devote more attention to the hat at hand.

Marian by Jane Richmond

Marian

This is my all-time go-to last minute gift. Marian is another free pattern on Ravelry by Jane Richmond. One skein of Malabrigo Rasta— it doesn’t matter what color– they are all stunning. Seed stitch. You guys, it is so squishy and soft. I have knit two for myself, a couple for friends, and for last-minute teacher gifts. So simple.

Pairs well with National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. We all need some laughs in the 11th hour, right?

Don’t waste anymore time– get knitting!
