In Search of the Perfect Bead
Saturday, December 9
from 10:30am-5:30pm with a 1hr break
Beads add undeniable beauty to knitting, but it can be tricky to choose the perfect beads for your project. This full day workshop presents guidelines for choosing beads. In the morning session, students will learn the principles that guide them to make consistently inspired choices of beads and yarn. Sivia will discuss dimension, color, and magic. In the afternoon, students will swatch for a design, Arcuato, which requires up to four different beads. Sivia guarantees that you will not look at beads the same way after taking this class!
A copy of the Arcuato Shawl pattern and a curated bead kit are included in the class fee.
Saturday, December 16 from 2:00-5:00pm
Mending and Making Do is a principle we are all familiar with, usually thought of in association with the frugality of the War years in this country and in Europe. But mending and darning have traditions that are far more ancient and of far more philosophical interest to craftspeople like ourselves. This class looks at antique textiles and artifacts from around the world with new eyes, then brings mending up to present day with new interpretations of old techniques. Sivia guarantees a beautiful, poetic, presentation that will make your fingers twitch to get mending! Several mending techniques are covered, including Sivia’s own knitted mend.
