For our August Knit 12 Together project, we’ve selected, Otherside by Melanie Berg, a boxy and airy sleeveless summer top that knits up quickly at a loose gauge. The stripes add just the right amount of interest to this shirt, making it a perfectly wearable addition to your everyday wardrobe. Several of the Twistedistas made this top last summer, and they haven’t stop raving about it since then!
Otherside has a pretty nifty construction. It’s worked flat in one piece, starting at the front hem. Stitches are bound off in the middle of the row for the neckline and casted on again in the next row. Then the back is worked top-down, and for finishing, you just have two side seams to stitch up and your ends to weave in. Like we said, nifty.
To make Otherside, you’ll need fingering weight yarn, ideally linen. Check the pattern for your sizing and required yardage – it ranges from 482 – 810 yards for the main color and 130 – 234 yards for the contrasting color. We’re recommending Quince & Co. Sparrow. While Quince doesn’t permit retailers to sell their yarns online, phone and email orders are a-ok! So if you can’t stop by the shop, just give us a call at 503-922-1150 or shoot us an email to place your order. You’ll also need US 7 – 4.5 mm needles for working flat (either straight or circular will do) and a tapestry needle.
Our Knit 12 Together August Cast On Party will be Monday, August 7 from 5p to 7p at the shop. This event is free, is open to all, and no registration is required. Just stop by whenever you can to join others interested in making this great project. You can get your materials ahead of time or pick them out that evening. Either way, we’d love to see you!
