Chickens and eggs abound in Portland’s backyards, in an assortment of sizes and colors. For this pattern the answer to an age-old riddle is clear: first comes the egg, followed by a pitterpat of chicken feet, and finally wire for the coop… with a feathering of colors in between.

There is a second question, too: Which came first: the cowl or the wrap? Luckily, there’s no need to choose, with instructions for both styles, as well as 1 or 3 color versions!

Gauge

For Cowl: 5.5 stitches and 10 rows = 1 inch in garter stitch worked in the round, after blocking.

For Wrap: 5.5 stitches and 10 rows = 1 inch in garter stitch worked flat, after blocking.

For Cowl: 25” / 63.5 cm circumference; 14” / 35.5 cm long after blocking.

For Wrap: 15” / 40 cm wide; 75” / 190 cm long after blocking.

Each kit contains materials to make either one wrap or one cowl. One wrap kit could also be used to make 2 cowls.

Yarn

• Choose either Blue Moon Fiber Arts Super Sparkle or Socks That Rock Lightweight.
• 3-Color Wrap: 3 skeins - unwound
• 3-Color Cowl: 1/2 a skein (about 200 yards) of each of three colors - WOUND AND NOT RETURNABLE
• 1-Color Cowl: 1 skein - unwound
