Purple Hat Campaign
CLICK for Babies: Period of PURPLE Crying
CLICK for Babies is a grassroots public education campaign organized by the National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome (NCSBS) to create awareness of the Period of PURPLE Crying, the leading trigger for infant abuse.
Want to get involved?
Please read the cap guidelines to get started. Note in particular that caps should be made with machine washable purple yarn. Caps should not have buttons or other choking hazards. Any pattern is fine.
These caps, along with educational material, will be distributed to new local parents by Randall Children's Hospital during the month of October.
Please note that due to the fabulous interest in this campaign, both Legacy and Twisted are unable to accept caps all year long. The generous support of knitters and crocheters means the volume of caps to store would simply be overwhelming! Thank you for either sending your caps directly to CLICK for Babies or storing your caps at home until Twisted's collection period begins on June 1st.
Need yarn for the caps?
Any yarn the meets the cap guidelines is great. We recommend the following, but as long as it is purple and machine washable, CLICK will happily accept your donated caps.
Berroco Comfort Worsted is our favorite yarns for CLICK caps. It is machine washable and dry-able to make things easy for new parents unfamiliar with caring for handknits. The CLICK-approved purple colorways are: 9722 Purple, 9737 Aster, 9739 Grape Jelly, and 9806 Sachet Mix.
Berroco Vintage is also a good choice. In three weights, these wool/nylon blends are robustly machine-washable, though not good to put in the dryer. The CLICK-approved purple colorways are:
Berroco Vintage DK: 2183 Lilacs, 21105 Petunia, 2114 Aster
Berroco Vintage Worsted: 51105 Petunia, 5114 Aster, 5183 Lilacs, 5219 Purple Haze
Berroco Vintage Chunky: 6183 Lilacs, 61105 Petunia
How about a pattern?
Any pattern the meets the cap guidelines is great. Twisted has two free baby hat patterns available in store or online: It's My Party Hat and Sweet Child of Mine Hat. Many others are available via CLICK and Ravelry. Any baby hat pattern that meets the cap guidelines is fine!
