Tabitha Babbitt was a Shaker who invented the first circular saw in 1813. Her innovation was remarkable for its simplicity and for the revolutionary impact it had on the lumber industry.

This cowl made me imagine her eureka moment, which happened after she saw the wasted effort of the long saws two people had to operate. Garter stitch and bold saw-tooth shapes are a nod to Shaker simplicity of form and also make this cowl a good choice for highly variegated yarns.
