This crocheted, triangular, neck-down shawl celebrates moss - drizzly Oregon’s omnipresent mainstay. A variety of v-stitch patterns combine to emulate the texture of moss and the soft, serene, yet vibrantly alive atmosphere it lends to wooded places on a grey spring day.

Socks That Rock Lightweight is a 3-ply, tightly plied, high grade superwash merino and is dyed by a woman-owned small business in Oregon. It is a well-rounded yarn, which is great for stitch definition, and it has tremendous bounce. Sample shown in colorway Mossy Plaid.

Gauge

Fingering weight: 17 stitches = 4”/10 cm in double crochet, after blocking. While exact gauge is not vital for this pattern, it will affect finished measurements and yarn usage. Most importantly, aim for a fabric that is open and drapey.

Size

Finished size is largely up to individual preference. As shown it is: Width: 50”/127 cm from tip to tip. Length: 22”/56 cm at center. Measured after blocking.

Construction

This shawl is started at the nape of the neck and increased on either side of a central spine to form a triangular shape.

Yarn

Socks That Rock Lightweight is the fingering-weight version of Blue Moon's signature sock yarn - yep it's as amazing as you've heard. It is a 3-ply, tightly plied, high grade superwash merino and is dyed by a woman-owned small business in Oregon.

The 3-plies make it a well-rounded yarn, which is great for stitch definition, and it has tremendous bounce. BMFA calls it lightweight instead of fingering-weight because of the elasticity, which makes it springier and loftier than your average fingering weight yarn.

This yarn is dyed by hand and will vary from skein to skein and batch to batch. Each one is an unique work of art full of subtle variation and beauty, so your skein will differ from the one pictured. To achieve the most even possible color distribution, consider alternating skeins while working your project.
