Tigger Targhee - from Blue Moon Fiber Arts
Targhee wool is a knitter's dream and, we think, under-appreciated! It’s lofty, bouncy, and durable! It might not be buttery soft like a very fine merino, but it's still soft enough to wear next to the skin for most folks, and in exchange you get vastly more durability than with an ultra fine fiber. The elasticity that Targhee brings to the table make its softness less slippery and more like a cloud...
Now, imagine taking this elastic fiber and spinning it into a cable-plied, fingering weight yarn. The result is what Blue Moon's owner and founder Tina Newton describes by saying, "I have to say I have not been as excited about a yarn since we made Socks that Rock. There’s just something about this super stretchy wonder of a yarn that makes me so happy. It feels as good to knit as it does to wear. I think the possibilities with our super-bounce, fun-fun-fun, Tigger Targhee are endless, just endless."
Perhaps best of all, this yarn is not subjected to the environmentally toxic super wash process. Its natural elasticity and crimp make it resistent to felting without additional treatments and chemicals. Blue Moon tested this by hand knitting socks and then washing and drying them in a dryer (yikes!) - and they faired well. We do not recommend this! But it does mean that your Tigger Targhee socks will wear beautifully and easily survive an accidental trip throught the washer. And with all that stretch, they are super cozy.
All in all this could be our and your new favorite sock yarn. Plus, it is 100% Domestic Ranched & Milled to support US farmers. We hope you love it as much as we do!
