DanDoh Cotton Fine is a unique yarn perfect for spring and summer clothes and accessories. It has a smooth and crispy texture because the surface of the yarn has a coating of viscous rayon films. Initially, it feels like linen, but the coating wears off after handling or washing and after that it softens up greatly.

This fingering-weight yarn works up beautifully held doubled for a dk-weight-ish fabric. This is an excellent opportunity to create your own unique color by combining two colorways! An example of this technique is the Mirror pullover and the Jaunty pullover, both designed by DanDoh's owner Yumiko Alexander.

Like other plant-fiber yarns, cotton does not have the natural elasticity and "stickiness" of wool - this is what gives it such a wonderful drape! If you feel the yarn is slippery to handle, try using wooden or bamboo needles/hooks, which have a bit more texture to help keep the yarn where you want it. To join new balls you may want to try using the Russian Join or the Magic Knot method. Blocking is always magic but will make garment made with Cotton Fine truly spring to life. Wet block and soak the garment thoroughly - up to 10 minutes.

Hanks must be wound prior to knitting with them. Unfortunately, though, we are not able to offer winding service for this particular yarn for you. The slick and crisp texture simply doesn't work on our winder, and it does not ship well once wound - the ball often falls apart and tangles en route.

We recommend waiting to wind this yarn just before you work with it, and you may need to wind it by hand. It's well worth the extra effort, though!

Tips for winding if you'll use a swift and ball winder:

  • When you go to put the hank on your swift, always check carefully at the two points where the hank is tied to make sure all the strands are coming out of those points the right way. If so much as one strand does a U-turn and goes the other way, you’ll end up with a hot mess on your hands.
  • Wind the ball tightly by putting tension on the yarn as you wind. The ball may fly from the ball winder if there is not enough tension.
  • Stuff tissue in the center hole and use the outside end of the ball for knitting. Without something in the center it's apt to collapse and tangle.

Please buy enough for your entire project all at once. We will select skeins from the same dye lot or, if there is no dye lot, skeins that visually match. If you add multiple skeins of the same yarn to your cart you'll be prompted at checkout to select how to proceed if we have concerns about skeins matching.

While colors shown are accurate to the best of our ability, computer monitors and dye lots both vary so the skeins you receive may differ from what is shown.
