Ranch 01, Brooklyn Tweed’s first ranch-specific, single-batch yarn, began with the sourcing of fine Rambouillet fiber at Bare Ranch in Surprise Valley, California, a ranch that produces Climate Beneficial Wool in partnership with Fibershed. After shearing, the fiber was processed at Chargeurs in South Carolina and spun at Jagger Brothers in Maine. Ranch 01 was then sent to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to be naturally dyed by the Green Matters Natural Dye Company.
At every step along its way, this wool has been treated with special care and attention. The multi-disciplinary approach to the production of Ranch 01 supports Brooklyn Tweed's deep commitment to domestic manufacturing as well as environmental stewardship.
- FINE WOOL - The fleece from these immaculate Rambouillet sheep produce a 21.8-micron count wool that feels cozy against the skin.
- STRENGTH - The worsted-spun construction provides the right balance of strength and drape. Rambouillet sheep produce fleece with a crimp that is known for its bounce and elasticity.
- STRUCTURE - Ranch 01’s 3-ply construction and substantial hand make for beautiful stitch definition in both stockinette stitch and textured patterns.
- SPECTRUM - This is BT's first foray into a naturally-dyed palette. Using a variety of natural dyes, the palette moves from soft and subtle to strong and vibrant.
Due to the naturally hand-dyed and minimally processed nature of Ranch 01, some color transfer to hands and needles while working with the yarn is to be expected. You will receive a Tip Card with your purchase. Also on the Tip Card, we recommend washing Ranch 01 in cool water with a pH-neutral rinseless wool wash to keep the natural dyes true to color.
With the dye striking the wool more strongly here and more gently there, natural dyeing captures the beautiful irregularities of nature itself, resulting in skeins with rich tonal variations. Some colorways of Ranch 01 have more variation within a skein than others, and skeins within a colorway vary slightly from one to another. Fabric knit from Ranch 01 will have subtle streaks and shifting depths, so for larger projects we recommend alternating skeins for a smoother blend.
