Plied Knowledge: The week that was…
At the shop:
- MORE NEW YARN!!! First up is Wildstar Fibers. We are now happily carrying two of their beautiful bases, Supernova Sock and Nebula DK! A reminder for all of the new yarns, they are so new we haven't had a chance to take our own pictures yet for the website. We will update the photos as fast as we can but remember, hand dyed yarn can vary.
- Next up- Yoshi & Lucy! We only had one box show up so for the moment it is just their delicious Brillante base which is SPARKLY! Who doesn't need a little bit of sparkle right now??? Again, this yarn is so new that the pictures on our website show the colorways, but without the touch of sparkle from the stellina...
- Berroco Comfort Worsted is such a great yarn because of its practicality. It's not going to break the bank to buy, it wears like a dream and it washes and dries like iron. Plus, we have it in so many colors - both solids and prints!
- Are you running low on wool wash? We are having a sale! Use coupon code: CLEAN to get 10% off all no-rinse washes like Soak and Eucalan through August 21!
Around the web:
- We often complain of having too many emails to deal with, but this article lays out the argument that the future of food writing is found in the humble email newsletter...
- You know what is super satisfying right now? Watching popcorn pop in slow motion...
- Grilling is for vegetables, too!
- Masks are becoming more and more a part of life around the world and for those that are hearing impaired, it can make things difficult. There are many who are looking to extend the vocabulary of American Sign Language to help include words such as "Coronavirus" but it also helps with a language barrier that masks create for lip readers.
- Has the pandemic left you with an excess of wine bottles over the months? Good old Martha has crafty ideas and projects way more fun to do than just tossing them in a recycling bin...
- Has the pandemic also left you with a cupboard of beans you are no longer excited about eating? Fear not! There are so many health benefits to beans that it is worth working through your stash to add them to your diet...
- This time we are not even asking because of course the pandemic has left us all needing help to keep our home offices organized. Real Simple has some tips to help!
And totally, completely, unapologetically local:
- Did you know that there is a farm in Oregon growing tea??? No need to wait to visit in person, you can shop their teas online!
- Although it is true that air travel has slowed down dramatically during the pandemic, the Portland Airport is keeping its reputation alive as one of the best in the country with this lovely Lego installation of a local favorite, the St John's Bridge.
- Old school locals know and love Movie Madness here in Portland. Not only a movie rental staple here for decades, it was also a small museum for movie buffs to roam around in. Not long ago it was saved from extinction by collaborating with other local fave, the Hollywood Theater. Now you can take classes online from Movie Madness University from the comfort of your couch!
Have a great weekend and remember, you can always find us online!
