Plied Knowledge: The week that was…
At the shop:
- We are thrilled to announce that EVEN MORE MALABRIGO showed up! Like, ALL of it! Now is the time if you are looking to stock up on Rios, Worsted, Mecha, Mechita, Sock, Silkpaca Lace, or regular Lace along with a few here and there of the other bases we carry...
- Finding yourself in need of more stitch markers, stitch stoppers and blocking supplies as the quarantine continues? You are in luck! We received a shipment from CocoKnits this week containing all that you need!
- Not to be outdone, Never Not Knitting sent us our order of some more of the painfully cute Forest Friends stitch markers...
Around the web:
- It's spring and we are starting off with flowers! Did you know that museums are sending each other virtual bouquets on Instagram and Twitter? #MuseumBouquet
- This deep into bread baking you may be running dangerously low on your supply of yeast. Or maybe you missed stocking up and never had any to begin with! Either way, here is an excellent article on how to make your own...
- Run out of supplies, no interest in a grocery run AND want to support a local business? That says Take Out. NPR has an excellent article on how to safely get it in the coronavirus era...
- For something completely different, we offer this interesting article on Dutch swear words- surprisingly relevant in the coronavirus era...
- Greece, which relies on tourism for much of its economy, is bringing it's best to you at home until you can travel there safely once more...
- Netflix and other streaming services are good, but do you miss theater? There is a way to stream Broadway musicals free for a limited time!
- Speaking of Broadway, John Krasinski and his show "Some Good News" found a way bring Hamilton to us all...

- And finally, thanks to TikTok you can watch someone knit with noodles...
And totally, completely, unapologetically local:
- Masks. Lots of local crafters have been making them and giving them to friends and loved ones now that the CDC recommends that we all use them. Have a surplus? Love to sew? We heard from one of our dear customers who is a nurse that Providence is giving the donated handmade ones out to patients to take home to keep and use. This will help them keep patients safe and conserve the medical ones for hospital staff. Oregon is doing really well flattening the curve! Keep it up!
- Drop offs are to be made by appointment only so there is someone there to take them.

- And the heartwarming news about Powell's Books continues! Not only did a plea for online sales help them put many employees back to work, but a call out on social media about what you would do if quarantined at the main store lifted the spirits of all! Hurray for humanity!
