K12tog November Project - Fossil

K12tog November Project - Fossil

PROJECT: Fossil - by Larissa Brown - from Larissa Brown Knitting Designs

RECOMMENDED YARN: Quince & Co. Osprey (pictured, available in-store or by phone/email) or Brooklyn Tweed Shelter.

Fossil is a brand new shawl pattern from Portland designer Larissa Brown. To knit it, you’ll start at the small end and work a growing number of eyelets on just one side, creating a skewed spiral. The result will be a shape that looks like a fictional fossil or shell from some unknown creature.

The pattern calls for Aran weight wool, but includes instructions to lengthen the shawl if you'd rather use Worsted or DK. (Yardage will increase a bit if using Worsted or DK.) Fossil can be made all in one color or in two colors, as shown. The pictured shawl uses all of 4 skeins of Quince & Co Osprey in Audouin (undyed), plus about 70 yards (not quite half of a skein) of Fox for the accents. So, 750 yards total. If you prefer to use Brooklyn Tweed Shelter, you'll need 5 skeins of the main color and 1 skein of the accent color.

You'll also need a set of US 10 / 6 mm, or whatever size gets you gauge, 32" or 40" or 47" circular needles for working flat. And don't forget a darning needle and stitch markers. The pattern is available via Ravelry download with a free printed copy at Twisted - or directly from Ravelry.
