Class Round-up- Playlist edition!!
We’ve got a big ole buncha classes coming up the week of October 5-12! And because I like to abuse my power, I’ll run you through them in musical form! Inspired by our constant companion here at Twisted, Pandora Internet Radio.
Slip Sliding Away (aka “Intro to Mosaic Knitting”)
Artist/Teacher: Elif and the Oganettes
Liner Notes: Learn the basics of mosaic knitting- a way of doing colorwork invented by Barbara Walker which requires you to use only one color per row! The stitches of the unneeded color are simply slipped and worked on the next row. Students will use several mosaic patterns to make a beautiful, functional pillowcase, then finish everything off with a few rounds of single crochet- no seaming required!!
Showtime: Wednesday October 6 and 13, 6-8 pm
Ticket Price: $40
Accompaniment (things to bring to class!): Darning needle, size 8 24″ circular needles (or straight if preferred) or size needed to get gauge, size G crochet hook, 4-6 colors of worsted weight yarn (Berroco Comfort was used for the sample.) Pattern provided.
Heavy Metal Thrummer (aka “Thrummed Mittens” Ok, I cheated on that one, but YOU find a song about thrumming!)
Artist/Teacher: Elif and the Oganettes
Liner Notes: What is a thrum (you may be asking)? Thrums are small lengths of fluffy wool roving that are knitted into the fabric of a hat, sock, or mitten to create a super-warm, luxurious fleece lining, which will eventually self-felt into a thick cozy layer. Learn to make perfect thrums and kepe your hands warm and dry this winter. The mittens are unisex and a great gift!
Showtime: Friday, October 8 and 15, 6-8pm
Ticket Price: $40
Accompaniment (things to bring to class!): approx. 200 yards worsted weight wool roving (preferably not superwash), size 4 and 7 (or size to get gauge) dpns, set of two circular needles, OR 32″ needles for magic loop method (choose which method you prefer), tapestry needle, stitch markers and stitch holders (or waste yarn.) Pattern included.
Baby, What a Big Surprise (aka “Baby Surprise Jacket”)
Artist/Teacher: The Parna Mehrbani Quartet Steamroller Orchestra
Liner Notes: Learn to knit Elizabeth Zimmerman’s classic easy-yet-crazy baby jacket!
Showtime: Saturdays, October 9, 16, and 23, 3:30-5:30 pm
Ticket Price: $60
Accompaniment (things to bring to class!): Approx. 350 yards of dk or worsted weight yarn and size US 6 24″ or 32″ circular needles. Pattern included.
Bring Me Up, Buttercup (aka “Top-down sweater: Buttercup”)
Artist/Teacher: The Parna Mehrbani Quartet Steamroller Orchestra
Liner Notes: A stylish sweater knit from the top down to avoid seaming. A great first sweater!
Showtime: Saturdays October 9, 16, and 30, 1-3 pm
Ticket Price: $60
Accompaniment (things to bring to class!): Dk weight yarn (5.5 sts/inch) (suggested: Elsebeth Lavold Hempathy), 2 circular needles in size necessary to obtain gauge and 2 in one size smaller. Free pattern used with permission by Heidi Kirrmaier: Click Here to see it on Ravelry
Bling Blang (aka “Silver Bling!”)
Artist/Teacher: The Karie Galvin Band
Liner Notes: Learn to make some hand crafted bling to fancy-up your knitting with stamps, molds, and pure silver clay! Pieces are dried and fired in a kiln at the end of class.
Showtime: Sunday, October 10, 11-1pm
Ticket Price: $20
Accompaniment (things to bring to class!): $40 materials fee includes use of over 135 design stamps, pure silver clay, and allows you to create one of the following: 1 large piece, 2 medium pieces, 4 small pieces, or 1 medium and 2 small pieces.
With or Without You (aka “Cabling without a Cable Needle)
Artist/Teacher: The Splendiferous Vivians
Liner Notes: Cabling is one of the most impressive and easy techniques a knitter can have in their bag of tricks, but using a cable needle is so darn fiddly! Vivian will show you how to skip that pesky extra needle and make your cabling flow seamlessly with the rest of your knitting.
Showtime: Tuesday, October 12, 6-8 pm
Ticket Price: $20
Accompaniment (things to bring to class!): dk or worsted weight yarn and needles to match
