Amigurumi madness
We have a class coming up that we’re pretty psyched about. It’s on crocheting amigurumi – Japanese style toy animals. These little guys are insanely cute. Our minor obsession with them began with this:
A so called “wonky duck” that Michelle, who is teaching our Amigurumi class, posted on her blog. Well that’s about all it took to get us hooked. Although the books for amigurumi are in Japanese, the patterns are all charts so you don’t actually need to know a word of Japanese to decipher them. (Though you do look very worldly and impressive crocheting away out of a Japanese book.) These work up very fast using only a single crochet stitch and are perfect gifts for young and old alike.
Here’s one Emily did as part of a charity auction for the French Bulldog Rescue Network:
and another that Shannon did for her hubby:
The class is Wednesday, September 12, 2007. 6:00 – 8:00 pm and there are still spots open – so give us a call (503-922-1150) and sign up! More details are on our complete class list.
Here are a few fun amigurumi sites:
Amigurumi Kingdom is notable for the slightly disturbing but undeniably cute disembodied amigurumi heads in muffin cups
Kookaloo’s amigurumi page on Squidoo has an extensive list of free patterns
Mr. Funky’s Super Crochet Wonderful is a new book we have on order (ps, Mr. Funky is a girl)
Enjoy – and let the obsession begin!
